Nearby Ludington State Park is regarded by many to be one of the best in the Michigan State Park system. It is situated between Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan with several miles of shoreline and beaches on both bodies of water. Some of the many activities available at the park include camping, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, and biking. A favorite activity of kids is tubing along the Big Sable River as it meanders through the park between the two lakes. The Big Sable Lighthouse is also located in the park and can be visited after a short hike through the dunes.
On top of all of these many attractions, Ludington is also very easy to get to. From the south, the 4 lane US 31 connects to Ludington's main drag. You can even get there easily from the west! The S.S. Badger, the largest car ferry in Lake Michigan, makes one round trip per day across Lake Michigan between Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Ludington.
AMT’S PICK: Our favorite downtown pick is Kilwin’s. Sample outstanding chocolates and confections.
