Make Michigan Your Spring Thing!
The last three weeks we have transitioned fully into Spring. Unlike our usual transition, there was still snow on the ground as we wore shorts outdoors for the first time. The grass is now a lush green and if you could see Lake Michigan, you would marvel at how clear the water is. From the Pier in Grand Haven you can see the bottom of the lake. It is a beautiful green and blue hue and the winter thaw has finally given way to the sound of waves hitting the beach again! It's been a while since we heard that sound!
You may think of Michigan as your summer thing, but I can assure you the local traffic has already picked up as weekenders are making their way into the quaint Lakeshore communities bringing with them their families and the spending dollars. Snowbirds are returning, and decks at our local restaurants are already opening. Snug Harbor here in Grand Haven opened its deck last Saturday for the first time. You don't have to tell me twice! I'll be there to welcome the first of Springs sunsets overlooking the Grand River. We're just waiting for Scoops and Miss Lisa's to open their doors now.
What is there to do in Michigan in the Springtime? Hunt trillium in the woods at Hoffmaster State Park. You can also enjoy sweet Michigan-made Maple Syrup fresh from the Sugar House at Blandford Nature Center in Grand Rapids (an annual trip for us!) You can enjoy the Arts here any time of year. Access to most of the State parks begins May 1. I can tell you that the roads have been cleared at Grand Haven State Park and the mounds of sand plowed out. Seeing the gates open is just a matter of time!
Our lakes and rivers and hiking trails await your return to Michigan. The weather is mild and comfortable. The local shops and restaurants are ready for you right now---don't delay. Enjoy Spring right here!
