Super Bowl XL Comes to Detroit
Update: In a surprise announcement on February 6, 2006, The Muskegon Chronicle proclaims in a page 1 headline that "Detroit wins Super Bowl". They must not have been watching the same game that I was where the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21 to 10!
Detroit is going to the Super Bowl! Sorry did I say that? What I meant to say was the Super Bowl is coming to Detroit. On February 5th the big game is going to be played in Ford Field.
As a Michigander and follower of the Detroit Lions, it was wishful thinking that the Lions would somehow make it to the Super Bowl in the same year that Detroit hosts the big game. Unfortunately, this week is the only time that Detroit and Super Bowl will be used in the same sentence for the foreseeable future. They have had the worst record in the NFL over the last 5 years and the last time the that the Lions won a championship was in 1957.
It is too late to buy tickets to the game through normal channels but there are many Super Bowl related activities happening in the Motor City all week. The NFL Experience at Cobo Center sounds like a fun event for Football fans of all ages. Almost every club and restaurant in the downtown area will be having Super Bowl related activities and the casinos will be geared up for Super Bowl action.
For football fans everywhere, I have compiled some interesting facts about past Super Bowls and included them in the right hand column of this page. I hope you enjoy this trivia. They have been updated to include the results of Super Bowl XL.
While I won't be able to make it to the big game in person, I will be enjoying it on TV with friends. If you are fortunate enough to be going to the game or participating in the Super Bowl week parties enjoy your stay in the Motor City.
Go Steelers!
Sincerely,
